MeshCore released firmware version 1.18.0 on October 15, adding a command-line interface to its Companion firmware and a set of new configuration and telemetry tools for packet-radio mesh nodes. The release covers Companion, Repeater, and Room Server firmware, with current images available through the project flasher.
The new Companion CLI is available in MeshCore App 1.50.0 and supports local commands as well as optional remote management. A node owner can grant a contact Remote CLI permission, allowing that contact to send commands over the mesh. MeshCore cautions that this permission is sensitive: it can expose radio settings, node names, and reboot control, so operators should grant it only to trusted stations.
Version 1.18.0 also adds faster channel synchronization, telemetry subscriptions, GPS and power-management refinements, repeater loop detection by default, and fixes across several radio and sensor platforms. New supported hardware includes the Thinknode M8, WIO Tracker L1 1W, Muzi Base boards, Thinknode M4, and a Waveshare ESP32-S3 LR1121 board.
For several listed boards, including Heltec V3 and V4, RAK3112, Xiao S3, and Xiao S3 WIO, Companion firmware can now make BLE and Wi-Fi available together. That lets an operator connect by Bluetooth to enter Wi-Fi credentials in the app, then have the node join Wi-Fi after reboot without reflashing between connection-specific builds. For a deployed mesh, that can simplify commissioning and maintenance; it also makes deliberate access-control choices more important.
