Edge of Space Sciences (EOSS) has scheduled its EOSS-407/408 Intro2Space balloon operation for Saturday, October 31, from Deer Trail, with Sunday, November 1 listed as the alternate date. Metro State University of Denver students will fly payloads on two 3,000-gram latex balloons or three 1,500-gram balloons. The organization lists live tracking at track.eoss.org and says its preflight prediction is available through its flight-prediction page.

For radio operators, both flight plans include 144.340 MHz APRS/digipeater beacons and 1090 MHz ADS-B transmitters. EOSS-407H lists K0SCC-13 as its primary APRS beacon, timeslotted at :00 and :30, while EOSS-408H lists AE0SS-3 at :20 and :50. Their remote-release/direction-finding beacons are listed on 145.645 MHz and 145.765 MHz respectively. EOSS also identifies a 7 p.m. Mountain Time preflight net on the Fun Machine linked system, EchoLink CANONCTY, and TGIF DMR talkgroup 815.

Flight-day coordination is planned on 446.050 MHz simplex, with recovery simplex channels from 446.100 through 446.275 MHz and the 449.450 MHz Rocky Mountain Radio League repeater. EOSS notes that its RF coordinator will choose any DMR talkgroup for the flight, with Rocky Mountain Wide TG 700 and Central Colorado Regional TG 720 among the possibilities. For Arkansas Valley operators, the published frequencies and timing make this a practical opportunity to monitor a Colorado high-altitude-balloon operation and, where appropriate, assist with signal reports or direction finding.
